Studio Policies

In both weekly and consultation cello lessons, we work on physical set-up, right hand technique, left hand technique, and musicality. Lessons typically start with a review of technical exercises. This could include a scale and arpeggios, double stops, technique exercises, or an etude. Skills from this are applied to a piece or orchestral excerpt. Students are encouraged to come to lessons with specific questions on issues they noted in their at-home practice. Students are expected to commit to at-home practice that is equal to the length of their lesson on a minimum of 5 days of the week (eg if you take 30 minute lessons, you will practice 30 minutes on 5 days of the week). 

Payment is accepted by check, cash, Venmo, and Zelle. Regular lesson payments should be made monthly, in advance (eg. on May 1 for the month of May). 

Consultation lesson payments are to be made within 15 minutes of the end of the lesson.

Orchestral Preparation lesson payments are paid in full at the first lesson.

Recording analysis payment is to be made together with submission of the recording. 

Students are expected to arrive on time for their lesson (plan to arrive a few minutes early). Lessons that start late due to student tardiness will not be extended and will end at the regularly scheduled time.

Lessons will take place on a weekly basis except for holidays and breaks marked on the lesson calendar. Any cancellations due to teacher performances travel or inclement weather (in accord with Baltimore County schools or College) will be made up during the year on mutually convenient days/times, or during breaks.

Although some special-order selections may be purchased at-cost from the teacher, it is expected that most music purchases will be purchased by students/parents. Suggested music outlets are as follows:
